I seem to have a problem with the daughters hot water system.Some 5yrs ago i changed the honeywell 3 port diverter and every thing was ok,now it seeems that hot water is entering the header tank.I have taken the top of the diverter and the valve turns freely(about 45 deg)I also checked the actuator and it seems to work when either the dhw or ch is turned on or off but the top is always hot whether it is turned on or off.Could it be that the valve is faulty or worn and making hot water leak by and get pumped to the header tank.Is there anymore checks that i can do so that i do not replace the diverter unnecessarily.Thanks

Most likely problem would be a blocked cold feed or vent, check where they join the heating pipes with a magnet and post back.

Sorry i forgot to say that the hot water is entering the header tank via the the copper overflow/expansion pipe.

The pipe that turns over the header tank is the vent pipe.

Same answer as before if it's pumping over.

What speed is the pump set on, plus any information about the boiler make/model etc. please.

Probably nothing to do with the valve. Pumping over is a common problem with several possible causes including:

The circulator pump is incorrectly sited in relation to feed and vent pipes
The pump too big
Blockage/sludge in the system

More info needed as per thescruffs request.

Sorry for the delay in replying.The boiler is a Baxi back boiler,the pump has been set on the slowest speed and all the valves have been checked that they are open and that the TRV's are working,i have run a magnet along the length of the pipes from the cylinder,pump, joints and around the mid point diverter.Although it is'nt as bad, hot water is still rising up the vent pipe to the header tank and dripping outside via the overflow pipe.Thanks.

Where is the storage tank and how do the two water levels compare.

Is the storage tank continually running.

eg Where is the water coming from to replace that "dripping outside via the overflow pipe" ?

As far as i can remember the storage tank is in the loft,i could not tell you where the water is coming from to replace the hot water from the vent.I will have to look at the storage tank water levels at the weekend and let you know what i find.This problem has surfaced over the last few months,the vent used to always be cold and the pump has always been in the same position with no problems.
