Title: Earthing? Post by Lectrician on May 3rd, 2012, 7:11pm Extending a ring final circuit in a butchery and noticed a slight issue that would have been present from the day the site opened! Going by the flex entry into the back box I would say the scales installers are to blame for this one! |

Title: Re: Earthing? Post by The_Trician on May 4th, 2012, 1:39pm I take it you mean the lack of cpc connection to the front plate? Or is it because the enclosure is all plastic? Can't tell if it's painted steel or not from the pic. |

Title: Re: Earthing? Post by Lectrician on May 4th, 2012, 4:37pm It's a typical MK masterseal moulded plastic enclosure. The two earth terminals are NOT linked! One is marked as EARTH the other as LOOP, in reality you use either for the earth, but not quite like that! |

Title: Re: Earthing? Post by Lectrician on May 6th, 2012, 3:02pm I can remember taking a surface moulded socket apart looking for a fault and noticed an earth flylead from the socket to the back box screw of the plastic box! Each socket I came to had one. It was an install done by a maintenance guy in a small independant school, all MMT2 trunking drops from ceiling down to new sockets for the interactive whiteboards. |

Title: Re: Earthing? Post by L.Spark on May 7th, 2012, 1:10pm It's amazing the lack of thought shown isn't it, perhaps this is a good example of why inspection & testing is so important! Or perhaps it's just to many of the wrong people doing the job! |

Title: Re: Earthing? Post by The_Trician on May 7th, 2012, 10:16pm I had 3 metalclad 20A DP switches last week where there was no flying lead to the front switch plate, nor any banjos fitted to the SWA glands - Done by a NIC Approved Contractor too. Despite the cable being a 3 core with 1 x core used as a cpc too! |
