Title: Cooker outlet for oven and hob Post by Flashbang on Nov 24th, 2012, 4:54pm Hi I currently have a single 45Amp cooker outlet plate at low level which at the moment has two flexible cables connected into it - one from the oven and one from the induction hob plus of course the feed cable. The issue is trying to get three cable connections into the one outlet plates terminals. Its a bit like wrestling with a Python! Is there any reason why I couldn't introduce a second outlet plate higher up the wall above the first one (Both would still be inside the low level over housing cupboard area) so as the hob can be connected to the new higher outlet and the oven to the existing lower one? So is it ok to allow the two outlets to be linked together with a short length of 6.0mm2 T & E or is it better to run a new length of 6mm2 T & E from the new outlet plate to the main cooker switch panel about 1.0Mtr but this then means chasing the wall out above worktop! Your views appreciated. |

Title: Re: Cooker outlet for over and hob Post by Lectrician on Nov 24th, 2012, 5:32pm Nothing wrong with it, but if you put one in higher up and 'loop' the supply, you will end up with two 6mm² T+E's, plus the cable to the hob, so no saving on space? And if you took two separate 6mm² T+E's upto the cooker switch, again, you have three cables to terminate. You can actually usually use 2.5mm² or 4mm² H07-RNF flex (or equiv)(depending on loading) from the oven/hob to the outlets, and this is actually specced in most manuals these days. Nice and small, and easy to terminate. You can also get "Dual Cooker Outlet Plates" Google gives them here: http://www.alertelectrical.com/prod/1022/click-45a-easyfit-dual-appliance-outlet-plate Nothing wrong with coming out of your existing plate and into a JB, splitting to the two appliances either. You would use a 'coffin' JB. http://www.lamppostelectrical.co.uk/products/mounting+&+junction+boxes/junction+boxes+&+enclosures/junction+boxes+/large+60a+3+way+heavy+duty+junction+box/2203040459 |
