Title: Waste from sink Post by toomuchtooyoung on Apr 15th, 2004, 11:13am Hi fellas, (and lasses) I am planning to fit a new bathroom in a few weeks and would like to hide all the pipework as neatly as possible. I was wondering whether it is allowed to put 32mm waste piping under the floor across joists by notching out - or whether this removes too much integrity of the joist? I look forward to your replies, TMTY. |

There are limits on the amount of joist that you can remove before the joist is considered structurally unsound. I think 32mm is too much and it could weaken the joist to the point of being dangerous. Andrew |
Title: Re: Waste from sink Post by thescruff on Apr 15th, 2004, 12:36pm With 9" joists you can notch them to take a wastepipe. However 32mm isn't large enough it has to be a min 40mm. Notch has to be between 0.6-0.8 of its length, and should be protected where it goes through the timber. Consider an alternative route, like om the surface under the bath. plumb |

Title: Re: Waste from sink Post by thescruff on Apr 15th, 2004, 2:59pm Basin wastes can be 32mm if it's not to long, otherwise use an anti-syphon trap. plumb |
