Title: Re: hardwood garden furniture care Post by woodsmith on May 30th, 2004, 11:12pm I personnaly don't think anything will give a perfect long term finish if left outdoors and now the wood has aged it will be even more difficult. On balance I would probably go for garden furniture oil as it contains agents to protect the wood from UV and algae so will be a better bet than teak oil. What is the bench made of? Wood I guess ;D but what type? or is it cast iron? Cast iron benches won't get any real protection with Teak oil, I recommend Hammerite ::) |

Title: Re: hardwood garden furniture care Post by woodsmith on May 31st, 2004, 9:04am Doh, I must try harder I must try harder I must try harder I must try harder I must try harder I must try harder I must try harder I must try harder My only excuse is sleep deprivation, 3 nights now on the kitchen floor, as the dog isn't so good after an operation. Garden furniture oil still sounds favourite, give it a good sand and thin the first couple of coats as much as 50-50 to get it to really soak in, then 2 or 3 full strength coats. Sounds a lot of work but it is soon applied and should just need a top up coat each year in the future. |
