Title: B***y hose pipe
Post by rabbit_rabbit on Jun 7th, 2004, 7:49pm

OK. Have hose pipe with outside tap. OK for years. Using one of those awful things that go back and forth recently and  - errr really whimpy.

So, hose pipe is tangled within reel? Nope. OK. so machine is fill of cr4p, clean it out - no good stays same.
OK hose pipe cut short se waht thta does - nuffin stil whimpy.

OK Plumbers what's up? Is it the tap, the washer, the isolator tap inside house. Pressure is OK within house.

I await the words of wisdom from he Gods.

most likely to be the tap washer, or the pipe could be frozen( :D)

Ray, check valves in taps are very susceptible to frost damage, has it been frozen up in the past?

Now THAT I do like - my plumbing question being answered by me old chippy mate - woodlice!!

THANK you VERY much Keith ya great - I think plumbers don't stop so low as to answer such a question!

And ya probably right, yes it will have almost certainly been subjected to being frozen. Would it be best to replace the entire outside tap?

In future I suppose I should turn the water off within the house to the tap (it does have a isolating tap).

Ray we woodlice need to be multi talented :D

I have just replaced 2 of these taps; I don't think you can get new valves???

If you do turn it off in the winter you need to make sure you have got all the water out of the tap.

OK I will bite Woodlice - so how do I ensure all the water is out of the tap? Suck it out?

Yes but you have to get someone to take a photo of you "in the act of sucking" and post it on the forum ;D

You need a drain cock at the lowest level of the pipe then turn the water off at the isolator, open the drain and open the tap and all the water drains out.

You could always get a plumber, I saw your post, £150 for 40 minutes :o we are in the wrong job.
