Title: worktops Post by missmolly on Jun 23rd, 2004, 9:54pm Hi Guys :) I am refitting my utility room, and have a 2.2m run of worktop. I am going to have a washing machine and a tumble dryer under the work top at each end. I want a Belfast sink, but am not sure what type of worktop to use. :-/ I've see the wooden ones, but don't think they will stand the amount of water and soil (I plan to wash veg in there) that I will splash around. :o Any suggestions on what is best to fit around the Belfast sink for a worktop? thanks a million ps this is a great site - I read it a lot, the humour is great ;D |
Title: Re: worktops Post by jasonB on Jun 24th, 2004, 7:25am It is vertually impossible to seal the cutout in a laminate worktop around a belfast sink. If you dont want wood which would as y are left with the expensive options of either granite or Corian. Another option would be to use an inset sink made from fireclay (same as the belfast) but this wouldn't be as big as a belfast. Jason |
Title: Re: worktops Post by woodsmith on Jun 26th, 2004, 6:50pm Miss M, there are some large stainless sinks available which you could inset into laminate worktop or it is possible to get a stainless sink set in a stainless worktop; Aga (the cooker firm) do one which is about 2.2metres long. As for wood if you used oak and gave it 6 coats of Tung oil and regularly re-oiled it would be durable. Granite would be a good option but you need to get a specialist firm to cut it round the sink, so it would be costly. Humour ??? Where's Big All ;D |
