Title: Drain heating system
Post by zimmer on Jul 24th, 2004, 1:09pm

 Hi plumbing type peeps,
I'm want to change my three way valve on my heating system, (rads hot all the time with heating set to off) But unable to drain down system, which I have done before.
I've opened the drain valve, but nowt comes out, also opened rad bleed valve and vent pipe at same time to let air in to system, get flow form both of these but nothing form drain valve.
I assume the valve to be blocked - new valve required ?
Or am I being a 'complete plank' and doing someting wrong.
                                       Cheers Zimmer  ???

Washers stuck and has to be prised out with a small sharp instrument.

You can get wet so roll any carpets back first.

Alternative is to turn both valves off on a lower rad, release the pressure through the air vent and shut it again when the water stops, undo both valves from the radiator and lift it off with your fingers over the ends (best with two persons) and empty it outside.

A fitting can then be screwed to the tail that you can attach a hose pipe, open valve and drain.

Thanks for the prompt reply and info Scruff.
I will now go and try 'NOT' to flood the house

                        Thanks again,
                                             Zimmer
