Title: Ovens Post by derivun on Aug 3rd, 2004, 1:11pm Friend of mine has just rented a flat where the built-in oven is wired into a 3-pin plug which plugs into a standard wall socket. Isn't this unsafe? I thought ovens had to be wired differently because of high power requirement? |
Title: Re: Ovens Post by HandyJon on Aug 3rd, 2004, 2:22pm It's ok for the oven to be on a 13A plug. It's the hob which has the high power requirement and needs the properly sized cable and switch etc. |
Title: Re: Ovens Post by derivun on Aug 3rd, 2004, 2:49pm Many thanks Jon. :) It's a gas hob so that's not a problem. You've put my mind at rest. |

It is probably OK for the oven to be on a plug, but some of them are over 3kW. Your friend should check the instructions if there are any to find out the rating of the oven, or contact the manufacturer and ask. |
