Title: floating floor Post by jamandchips on Oct 11th, 2004, 4:07pm I need to lay a laminate floor on unevern flagstones - any ideas how i would go about this - I was thinking of putting down 18mm exterior ply onto battens and laying the laminate on top - what does everyone think, and what size battens would you use? thanks |
Title: Re: floating floor Post by splinter on Oct 11th, 2004, 4:58pm jamandchips, If the thickness of you're floor isn't a problem ,a 50mm screeded floor would be better than battens &ply. :) |
Title: Re: floating floor Post by jasonB on Oct 11th, 2004, 6:07pm If the floor thickness is an issue you could use a self leveling compound, may need two applications if there is a lot of variation, then use the standard underlay. Jason |

Title: Re: floating floor Post by woodsmith on Oct 11th, 2004, 6:25pm Asphalt? Keeps out damp Another option is 25mm Jablite or similar polystyrene sheet with a floating layer of t&g chipboard on top(joints glued and with a vapour barrier underneath the t&g) will give you a nice warm floor. Depends how "uneven" the floor is. |

Thats interesting Keith, presumably that would work with a click type laminate floor |
Title: Re: floating floor Post by woodsmith on Oct 11th, 2004, 7:05pm Gromit I am not so sure, I have always laid t&g on top. I think that it may not support the laminate enough especially if there was a particularly heavy point load. |
