Title: More of NICEIC shooting themselves in the foot!
Post by sparkyjonny on Nov 14th, 2004, 4:57pm

Picked up from publications from the Manchester Electrical Roadshow last week:

Approved Contractors and the Domestic Installer Scheme

"Does the new scheme mean increased competition?
...The introduction of statutory regulation may also reduce the total number of contractors competing in the domestic installation market."

"Why Direct Debit payments?
...The reason for taking the Direct Debit approach is...to allow for any unforeseen costs that might be incurred as a result of Government requirements yet to be confirmed..."

Electrical Contractor - ECA journal

"The NICEIC has bought Zurich Certification for an undisclosed sum.  The business will transfer in its entirety from patient company Zurich Risk Services to the NICEIC without the need for any redundancies.  Zurich Certification will continue its operations under the new name of NIC Certification."

Sounds like the monopoly's started...

Same here TT, shame is that none of the "scams" seem to have a reasonable price tag attached...

Yeah, nor any sensible structure.

For one thing I don't believe there's any need for constant annual re-assessment. That's just a pain in the arse, and I reckon the only reason they do it is to justify the high fees.

Random testing, now that might be more interesting. If someone can just turn up any time and demand to go round with you?

Reminds me of the local college. When offstead were coming what happend? we had the same lesson twice, even before the inspector popped in. Funny thing was, it was about the only formal prepared lesson we ever had.

Wouldn't have any problem with this idea - provided they paid ME for the privalege of inspecting MY work.

Yet more reasons to join NAPIT.

And no NITPIC did not get NAPIT's registry.

A monopoly will not be permitted I am VERY reliably informed (refer ODPM).

Carry on shooting NITPIC...then ya may have ya license revoked and handed over to some other organsiation such as "AskTheTrade" for FWL.
