Title: Hardwood flooring Post by billythekid on Dec 7th, 2004, 10:52am Helping my neighbour lay his new flooring atm. He hired a "gun" that you sit against the edge of the board and whack with a club hammer thingy, to put the nails in the grooves. Do these things always leave the nails proud of the surface? Every ferking nail we've had to punch in. Also, when laying this stuff is it best to lay a run at a time or like a couple on one run then one or two on the next and so on? I felt the second method was better coz there's no chance of laying a board off straight when you have one behind it(although all the sinking of the nails is pushing some of them out a bit.). Will the floor "settle" over time? i.e split the difference with gaps between boards etc.) Three questions one topic, hows that for value for money? lol Billy (oops make that 4 haha) |

Title: Re: Hardwood flooring Post by billythekid on Dec 7th, 2004, 12:17pm similar to that all, the bit you step on is a bit longer(the board against the wall needs nailed end on) but thats the general thingy yeah. |
Title: Re: Hardwood flooring Post by jasonB on Dec 7th, 2004, 5:18pm Some of them you can adjust how far the nail is driven below the surface. If you are not hitting it hard enough it may be bouncing off the board, should be one hit to close the gap then the second one fires the nail. Just read it again the nails are meant to go into the tounge NOT the groove. http://www.readersdigest.co.uk/diy/webpages/253_255.htm Jason |
