Hi, i'm new to testing/ inspecting and want some help please. The test schedules are pretty self explanetry but i'm struggling to understand just what some of the tick boxes mean on the inspection scedule. Although i understand most of them, there are a few i need help with. Is there any book or document i can get hold of which explains exactly what each item means?

To inspect & test correctly, you should be in posession of the following items -

BS7671
OSG
GN3
Appropriate testing kit.

Now, the OGS & GN3 give explanations ast to how to fill in all the boxes. There are also notes on the forms themselves.
Which bits are you specifically unsure of?

Hi...i do have regs book and on site guide, i dont have gn3 but do have the uneeda 'practical guide to electrical installation testing, 4th edition' which i believe is the same as gn3 ??
Even with these there are a few items i don't know what to do with. Eg. a(ii) c(v)
Where in (c) 'presence of main bonding conductors' there isnt any bonding because of plastic services for instance, do i tick this box or put N/A?

Although we did some inpecting/testing during my c&g and nvq course we were never shown how to fill out the forms. I hope to do 2391 when i can afford it but need to get this form filling clear first!
I was hoping there would be a book which specifically went into detail of every tick box on the form!

Believe it or not, I've seen a one-day course advertised where all they teach is how to fill in the forms!

When I saw that. I knew the form filling was potentially going to be a nightmare.

As JerryD says there is a course on form filling and it is covered in C&G2391. I agree it can be confusing. However you can qualify any point you're unsure of by making comment in either the schedule of tests or on page 2 in the Observaions or Summary box.

Specifically with plastic incomers I N/A it and comment in the summary box.

No - Main Bonding conductors refers to earthing your incoming gas and water.

Unless you can prove that everything is plastic AFTER the gas meter and the water stop-cock, (inside the house) then you have to fit 10.00mm bonding conductors.

There may be plastic pipework coming into the house, but there definitely isn't any plastic pipe on the market which is suitable for the conveyance of gas around the inside of the house, so it has to be copper.
There may be plasic for water but I'll bet that you'll find some copper pipe runs somehwere.

TT in this particular instance there is no gas pipe so the only incoming is water which is plastic, therefore no main bonding to do. So i put N/A in the tick box?
All pipes are plastic apart from short final runs to basin etc....should these be supplementary bonded, i can't see why they should be?
i take it there is no publication i can refer to which explains in detail the meaning of all the tick boxes?

I was hoping to get these issues clear in my head because it will be a while before i can get on the 2391 course. I live in cornwall and courses are hard to find down here!

If the water incoming is plastic along with all the water pipes in the house, except for the taps etc, then there is no bonding or supplementary bonding to be done.

I don't know of anywhere that tells you what all the boxes on the forms mean, but if you asked during your 2391 they would explain all this to you.

Its pretty much as L/S says. The on site guide and BS767 itself do have explanatory notes, although they are not the easiest of things to understand I know.

2391 is the way to go - you are taken thru' the form-filling when you do your practical exam.

Well In order of ease of use its Guidance Notes>On Site Guide>BS7671

But going on 2391 is defiantly the answer if you want to know all ::)

a very good book is inspection , testing and certification published by the NICEIC

it goes through every box giving deatails of each one and all asspects of testing

its £25.00 from the NICEIC but worth every penny

thanks guys for your help, maybe i'll get a copy of that book from the niceic....i like to support our charities.
i really want to get to grips with inspecting/testing and be confident that i know the meaning of all the entries on the forms, that way i will at least know what i'm talking about when they drag me to court for refusing to cooperate with part-p!
