What woodworking mags are available in the UK and are any of them any good. I know there are a number of American mags but is there something done locally that is pretty good?

There are a few of them mostly aimed at the DIY enthusiast but they also cater for trade.
I buy 'the Woodworker' every month and there are also 'Traditional Woodworking', Practical Woodworker'
The others will probably remember more of them.

I need a fresh copy of the magazine I buy to replace the photo of one of the regular contributors in my dart board.

I get Furniture & Cabinet Making every month, aimed more at the serious amature and professional designer/maker, you won't find any "bird box in an afternoon" type projects in it ;D but some very nice furniture both modern & traditional.

Also get the odd copy of Fine Woodworking if there is something that takes my fancy but its a bit pricy (US mag) Don't get it so often now as most of the articles can be found on their site http://www.taunton.com/finewoodworking/index.asp.

Dewy, I didn't think you were that good a shot ;D I thought it would last at least 2 months.

Got the whole family in this month, including the dog, for you to have a go at.

The Woodworker tries to cater for everybody so it does have simple projects in but also some more challenging ones.

My recent contributions; this month dust, next fitting a utility/ oak worktops/ Belfast sink etc. then the following month a long article about bench planes.

Do any of you have numbers or web addresses for any of the mags? I take it that i need to subscribe to The Woodworker to stay in woodsmiths good books ;)

I have to make a new years resolution.
"Check the magazine before buying"
I seldom look at the front cover and saw an issue at the front of the racks and bought it.
When I got home I realised it was the same issue I had bought a few weeks before.
It was the newsagents trying to sell old stock before the next issue came in.
Now I have 2 pictures of Keith with his oak board with a target hole in the middle. lmao ;D ;D ;D

Jason has a good point what suits one won't suit another, so best to go and have a look. One problem at the moment there are so many mags available that some newsagents are reducing their range, including WHS so they can sometimes be hard to get.

I only write for the woodworker so am biased ::)

PW is suposed to concentrate on simpler more practical projects with TW being for more advanced woodworkers but in reality I don't think there is a vast difference between them. That is except for me!!! ;D

hi all i am over from sfd and i am a little shy so be gentle..regarding the magazines i have read most woodworking magazines but in my opinion i much prefered "good woodworking"as it seemed more geared up to trade a little more as opposed to hobbiest types. i suppose it depends what you do.
