Title: Fixing monobloc taps
Post by shirleye68 on Feb 5th, 2005, 2:16pm

Hello, can anyone help? What tool is best for tightening the stud nut for a monobloc tap with pipe tails. Everything I've tried won't grip as the flexible pipe tails prevent clear access to the nut. Thanks.

large tap wrench usually does the job but not easy.

Sometimes better to whip the sink out and do it up first

Thanks Scruff, managed to do it with some bent nose pliers as a large wrench or even any size wrench just wont fit in the gap because of the back of the basin on one side and the two tail pipes on the other. ::)
Just wondering why anything I try to do is never easy or simple to sort out :( Saved me taking the sink out again though.....

Thanks again ;)

Can't remember where I was, but I saw a long box spanner the other day for monobloc taps.  Didn't buy one, but I bet the next time I fit some of these taps I'll wish I had! ::)

I use a 3/8 drive deep socket on an extension. dead easy to do.
Just don't overtighten it!! ::) ::)

If I come across similar problems i usually whip the basin out and tighten the nut before installing the tails.
PS never ever ever buy a crow foot from B&Q, you'd be cheaper just smashing a couple of basins and dragging your knuckles down some roughcast.

These should do the job

I use a set of deep sockets, works a treat for me.

I got the sockets from a cheap shop in Bracknell town centre. They sell various tools under the Rolson brand, I don't know if these sockets are Rolson but it makes no odds, they do the business for me.

It might help to tighten the stud nut before putting on the pipe tails. I do it that way, though I sometimes have had to put the tap on the sink before fitting it into the worktop.
