Title: Shower Pump Query
Post by HM on Feb 25th, 2005, 11:20am

Our shower pump appears to have given up the ghost. No pressure, just a slight buzzing noise from the pump and the pump obviously isn't turning.

The current shower pump is rated at 2.5bar max. Just been to my local supplier and they do ratings of 1, 1.5, 2 and 3 bar.

Question is, do I go for 2 bar or 3 bar?

Thanks BTK. Hope your pen didn't run out of ink as you penned that reply ;D

Right, next question. Supplier?

These dang shower pumps are on the pricey side. Leastways, the screfux jobbies are!

The best pump to go for with out any doubt is a Stuart Turner Monsoon 3 bar twin impeller.

I can get them for £264 + vat trade.

Stupid question which I think I know the answer to. But anyway.....

The bar rating. Is that the water pressure that the pump can deliver, as in feet of water?

I was slightly confused earlier today because the pump had max 2.5bar stamped on it, and I didn't know if that meant the max pressure it could stand on the inflow.

Your right 1 bar = approx 14.7 psi :P

1 bar also is the equivalent to 10 metres of head pressure approximately, so a 3 bar pump is the same as raising the storage tank 30 metres (100 feet) above the shower.

You'll need some long bits of 4 x 2 to build a stand that high  ;D

btw, I agree about the S/T Monsoon pumps, I have two 3 bar pumps here, very reliable and quiet.
