Title: Estimating cost of installation
Post by CWatters on Mar 10th, 2005, 2:45pm

I'm building a 5 bed/3 bath detached house this year (about 2700 sq foot) and I'm trying to budget for the heating system...

I've had quotes for the UHF pipes, manifolds and thermostats (Total £4200)

I've got prices for an oil boiler, oil tank, H/W Cyl, pumps, towel rads pipe etc (Total £5600)

That's all the parts sorted but...

Any idea roughly what I should budget to get this lot installed?

where abouts are you

are you planning on supplying all the materials

is it a new build or a refurb

It's a new build. We have a plot in Cambridgeshire and we will be putting the construction drawings out to tender in a week or so.

The floor area is around 280sqM and both floors are beam and block. The heating on both floors is pipe in screed over insulation plus 3 towel rails - all reasonably standard stuff. There will be three sets of manfolds total about 12 zones fed from a 30KW oil fired boiler.

Currently unsure which route to go. We've had one quote for supply and installation of the complete system (ex screed) but it seems very high.

We will be going for more quotes but meanwhile I wondered if their quote was totally out of court or if I've got it wrong.

Excluding the cost of the materials... Is this a £5K job? £10K ? £20K ? £30K ?

This is one of those where without seeing drawings / site etc etc so as to be able to see pipe routes etc its very hard to give a figure.

I recently did a new build, 8 circuits of UFH, single manifold, 210L unvented cylinder, LPG boiler, family bathroom and two ensuite wet rooms - developer supplied sanitaryware and all UFH - i supplied pipework, cylidner, boiler and labour - came in at just under £8K

One would need lots more info, plans, and a site visit to get even close to a price,  end user requirements  and a thousand other seemingly unimportant imformation, type and make of sanitaryware will also make a big difference to cost.

Builders program and a complete scheme of things from the end user that could only be known from sitting down and discussing details, possible over several meetings.

To get any idea you need to get estimates all quoting for the same basic instalation.

You should budget to supply and fit between the top end of the 20-30 mark without seing the job

Thanks for the replies. I'll see how other quotes pan out.

Expect to pay between £8 - £10 per meter square for the ufh installation.
