Title: AMD SEMPERON
Post by The_Trician on Apr 7th, 2005, 4:39pm

Are these CPUs backward comapable with the Athlon Thunderbird Barton SKT A ones?

I don't have a '64' board and my old 1.2GHZ is getting tired.

I'm running an ASUS A7N8X Deluxe which was released in 2003, and was thinking about getting one of these new types.
I've been to the AUSUS and the AMD sites but it was all way over my head!

I've lost touch with the hardware side of things over the last couple of years.

Any tips/hints/links gratefully recieved.

Not sure about backwards compatibility but I suspect not.

I've just read that AMD have stopped making the Socket A Athlon so I had better get mine upgraded while distributor stocks last.

All the Socket A Athlons seem to be out of stock/discontinued at Amazon..

Cheers mate,
I've since found that the Semperon runs witha 166MHZ FSB. I've managed to source some AMD Athlon stuff from a couple of dealers and am awaiting further info.

Thanks
