Title: ?? replace Feather Edge fence ?? Post by nyck on May 19th, 2005, 10:55pm The feather edge fence ive got is the type with triangle piece of wood between 2 concrete posts top and bottom and the feather edge nailed to it.some is rotton so need to replace it. my question is how do you get the triangle piece of wood into the slots in the concrete post.the ones that aren't broke look a very snug fit.I can see the ends are tapered so i guess you slide one end in lower and slide the other end in ,but this looks like it would be to loose nyck |

Post by HM on May 20th, 2005, 8:03am Those triangular pieces are put in at the time the fence post is concreted in, so I don't think you have many options here. The only feasible way I can see of fixing this problem is to get the old piece out (obviously), then put the new section in, in two pieces which are then fixed together with a mending plate or something. It's possible you might be able to use some sort of dowelling technique, and glue the wood back together (exterior glue obviously). HM |
Title: Re: ?? replace Feather Edge fence ?? Post by Chaddy on May 20th, 2005, 11:47pm If i understand you right. you will need to cut the old arris rail close to the post and you can either support the old rail, if it's not rotten , or the new rail with the item on the link below. Just fixes to the post and the rail dead simple. ;D http://www.screwfix.com/app/sfd/cat/pro.jsp?ts=28927&id=48243 |
Title: Re: ?? replace Feather Edge fence ?? Post by HM on May 21st, 2005, 12:30am The posts are concrete - I doubt that this bracket will be simple to attach. In my previous reply I was thikning of a bracket similar to the following, which could effectively join an arris rail in the middle - that way the rail could fit into the holes in the fence posts, and be "mended" with a bracket: http://www.toolstation.com/messages.html?closeUp=47211 HM |
