Is there a minimum height for a door lintel for a 6'6 x 2'6 door frame. i 'am forming a new opening.thanks

Do you mean the depth of the lintel itself? What do Building Control say?

no cwatters i mean the height of the lintel from the finished floor level to the under side of the lintel. the only reason being is i have installed the lintel about 20mil above the door casing only to find out the minimum is 2100 high ,can any body shed some light please. i have conflicting reports on this topic and the build inspector is due out on monday monrning.

i WOULD HAVE THOT THAT AS LONG AS YOUR DOOR FRAMING LEFT THE 6,6" HEIGHT FOR THE DOOR YOU WOULD BE OK??????????????????

As long as you can get the door and casing in it makes no odds....plasterer will fill the void, not unusual to have a couple of inches or more above the casing head and lintel.

the reason i put the lintel in below 2100 was because it was the nearest course if mortor ,if i went above ,it was in breeze block which just crumlbles even if you look at it .
so touch wood it will pass.thanks for your help guys this eases my mind a little.

I've just had a look at Part A and the word Lintel only occurs 4 times. I couldn't see any height restriction except....

In one section where it says that if the wall with the opening is used to buttress another wall - then the opening shouldn't be more than 0.9 times the wall height (Otherwise in effect you are removing the buttress) and the opening must be more than 550mm away from the junction with the wall being buttressed.

This is nonsense! The lintel only has to clear the door lining. A 20mm gap is fine. Even if this is not filled with plaster, the architrave will cover it.

You're worrying about nothing.

The minimum is defined as 2100mm, but the maximum is not defined, so you could install the lintel at 3000mm at still meet regulations. How you fill the gap is up to you! ;)

Where does it say that the minimum is 2100 ? I couldn't find it in the building Regs.

An internal door lining is about 1985mm to top of head of lining. Why have a 115mm gap to the underside of the lintel ???

I've never seen this rule about 2100 minimum height :-/

Cant believe this issue is being discussed... One door ..one frame... one finished floor level... one tape measure.
If it doesnt fall to a block height sit it on a brick or two bricks and use bricks to bring you back on to course :-/
