Title: Gloss and emulsion: which order? Post by jimcam on Feb 13th, 2006, 2:18pm Hi, I've got a room needing emulsion on the walls and gloss on the skirting boards, window frames, etc. What's the best order to paint - gloss on woodwork first followed by emulsion, or vice versa? |
Title: Re: Gloss and emulsion: which order? Post by sparkyjonny on Feb 13th, 2006, 4:19pm I'm not an expert, but I'd say emulsion - so you don't get roller spashes all over your woodwork. You can then leave the accurate cutting-in until when you gloss, when you'll be using smaller brushes. |

Title: Re: Gloss and emulsion: which order? Post by scotspark on Feb 13th, 2006, 8:24pm I always thot emulsion then gloss but see a lot of painters gloss first because they say you can wipe emulsion of the gloss easier than gloss of the emulsion ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) we are waiting hammy ;) |
Title: Re: Gloss and emulsion: which order? Post by JerryD on Feb 13th, 2006, 8:33pm I recently had a load of decorating work done by a 'proper' decorating firm and the emulsion was all done first. The last job was glossing the doors/architraves/skirtings and window boards. |
Title: Re: Gloss and emulsion: which order? Post by CWatters on Feb 13th, 2006, 10:37pm It's easier to wash emulsion off gloss than the other way around - so I'd do the gloss first. However don't be tempted to slap the gloss all over the place on the basis that you can cover it up with the emulsion. I've seen the oil in gloss bleed through emulsion somehow. |

Post by hamilton on Feb 14th, 2006, 4:58pm What goes round, comes round; as soon as one of those ponces on the television use a bit of woodchip in one of their creations, then the sheep will be wanting it on their walls. Woodchip to me, is like varnish to Wolfie. >:( |
