Title: Light
Post by jimcam on Mar 28th, 2006, 10:55am

Anyone got any tips on how best to use light when painting walls and ceilings?

Is it best to paint a ceiling from the window backwards into the room? Is it worth having a couple of light sources for when there is no daylight left?

I did a ceiling then walls in a room on the same day on Saturday and really struggled to see where I'd been on the ceiling and then seeing at all in the shadows when it came to finishing off the wall at about 7pm!

I've had the same problem recently. Painted the ceiling in 3ft wide overlapping strips to be sure it's all covered.

Start from the main source of light, and work away from it.

You can always buy the paint that changes colour where it shows where you have been, I have never uses it, but when I paint a ceiling, I work away from the window, the first coat is a doddle as you can see the difference, but can be tricky for 2nd or3rd coats.

I just roll it on, then cross over it, sort of overlap but in different directions, I suppose I am lucky cause I can see where I have been, my dodgy eyes are good for that type of thing. ;D

Tried that - the Dulux domestic stuff.  The pink colour isn't too strong once applied compared to an adjacent white / dried section, but it's still useful.

That stuff was reviewed in Which magazine a few months ago and as I recall got a big thumbs down (for price & quality).

I've used it once before it's crap!!

Still a pinkish tinge afterwards :(
