Title: Forum Upgrade
Post by Lectrician on Jul 27th, 2006, 7:42pm

We are in the process of upgrading the forum to make it quicker, more secure and generally a little more up-to-date!

Please continue to post as normal, this forum will remain open for as long as possible during the maintenance works.

The works have been slightly delayed due to power failures, but will re-commence soon.

Thanks for your patience!

This is your prior warning  :P

The forum will most probably shut this afternoon at some point for 30 mins or so.

30 July 2006.

OK, here it is - The new and improved forum.

It should be quicker, especially for searching.

It has enhanced security.

And basically, is much better!

Anything that seems odd, please PM me, we may still find little bugs!

The one annoying thing that may need changing when you can........any posts where you altered text size may now appear smaller that before, this is because the font size system is now similar to a word-processor, and the sizes are different........please ammend any of you own posts when you find them, and moderators will also do the same to posts on their boards.

To turn off the images on the forum index page, enter your profile, and change the template under "options".  We will also be adding some other cool templates soon!

Humour section seems to have disappeared completely?!

Otherwise, new forum is fine so far!

Why have I got a green dot next to my name and everyone else has a red dot?
Ok, I know it's not the most important thing in the world at the moment, but I like to know these things.

Sorry - wrong.  Your name colour depicts if you are a mod etc.....

the red/green dot shows if you are on line currently - green means on line ;)

I am sorting that as we speak ;)

Title: Re: Forum Upgrade

The threads keep jumping up and down. This seems to be caused by the message above the thread changing from one to two lines and back. Very annoying. [smiley=computer3.gif]

Title: Re: Forum Upgrade
Post by Lectrician on Aug 3rd, 2006, 9:50pm

OK, on my screen, the message is single lined only.

Where do you propose we cut the line?  Anyone else finding this?

Title: Re: Forum Upgrade
Post by MarkS on Aug 3rd, 2006, 10:04pm

If you resize the your browser window so that the 'Welcome to att' message just fits across the window then the longer messages take up two lines and it does jump.

Solution - get a bigger monitor or glasses and stop using tiny windows.

It still jumps even with one line.

everytime you go to click on something it moves out of the way.

grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

needs a seperate box or something the same as the old forum

Title: Re: Forum Upgrade

The welcome banner that fades is the larst part of the screen to load - hence why it drops.  It only drops once while it pop-ups.  (unless you have your screen resolution on a REALLY pore setting).

Lets take votes for keeping or removing the message fader??

Also, as the forum is based on graphics a fair amount, it does take a little while for the page to "settle" - this was a little un-forseen.  All other forums I have sorted run on a server which dishes the pages extremely quickly.  We run from a free server in SS's loft, and are limited by his internet connection upload speed.

I may be able to produce a selectable template in the profile which changes the image type buttons to text only.  This may sort the screen "settling" for some.

Just out of interest, how many people have altered the forum template to remove the index-images on the boards??  Go to profile, and click on options, then look to the bottom.

On the jumping about with the fader - another contributory factor is that the smilies are bigger than the text so when changing between lines that do and dont include a smilie it jumps a bit.

There are some 'wierd' things going on with this new version

At the moment unable to pinpoint exactly but for example...

1. Sometimes, only sometimes a great raft of postings are missing when I enter a thread.

2. The home page (index) sometimes only shows the calandar and nothing else, do a screen refresh a few times and its OK.

OK so I use an Apple PC but I dont think its that, no problems with any other sites I visit. Especially the boobs and bums sites - all the bits are there ok lol

There is no easy way to downgrade unfortunately RR.

We have had, as expected, some teething problems, which is why I made sure i did the upgrades when I knew I had some spare time.

We have been curing problems experienced by people as we go, so far successfully.

The forum error log gives us a good clue as to who experiences errors, even if they don't moan.

Tell us exactly what happens - is it just the two symptoms you have already listed?

I think CPW has an error - all his posts contain to words - just smilies ;)

Hey up Mods, i think there may be a problem with the old time/clock affair upon this here new look site, well i posted on the sparky and the just talk sections before midnight on the 9th, and they are showing "today" in the last post part!!??, and i just noticed it lists this post as the 10th Aug, not a TODAY tag on it!!??

ooops!!

Title: Re: Forum Upgrade
Post by WOLF on Aug 10th, 2006, 9:16pm

seems ok now, like it did early yesterday evening, it just seem to take a while to update it self!!!

will keep an eye on it at midnight tonight again! (got to do a pick up job at 1 A.M. ...( F-KIN DARTS AGAIN!!)

on a slighlty differing subject, did ya get the e-mail i sent you guys @ 18:24 hours  at ATT .

do you need a BIG bag of 50p's for the meter, or was i the only one the site seemed to die on this morning right up until about 1/2-3/4 of an hour ago!!???

Title: Re: Forum Upgrade
Post by WOLF on Aug 11th, 2006, 12:26am

Date stamps are still not working correctly LEC, it shows the reply to the all trades as TODAY , as well as the Sparky section as well as the Chipies bit!!!

at 12:23 AM on the 11th you can't quite have a today posting showing "today 11:59PM" can ya!!!

i know i may be being picky, BUT! you did want to know of any scene problems!!!!!

It was un-stickied.  You could find it in the board, and 'bump' it to the top.  The sticky section got very crowded!
