Title: Tiling? Post by kp1512 on Aug 28th, 2006, 6:20pm Hi We ar elooking to tile our Porch which is no more than 1 SQ Meter.....it has a concrete base and just wanted to see how people gen apporach tiling in external based areas?.....We aim to use Ceramic Floor Tiles KP |
Title: Re: Tiling? Post by jasonB on Aug 29th, 2006, 7:43am Ceramic tiles are unlikely to be frost resistant, however what most people call "ceramic" floor tiles are actually porcelain and will be fine externally, check with your tile supplier as to suitability. You need to use a powdered adhesive that is suitable for external use and have no voids under the tile so use a "solid bed" trowel, the type with large half round notches. Also use a suitable external grout. Jason |
Title: Re: Tiling? Post by CWatters on Aug 29th, 2006, 8:13am Avoid polished/smooth tiles that are slippery when wet. The people who built our last house put them in the garage. Big mistake leading to a hole in the end wall :-) |
Title: Re: Tiling? Post by kp1512 on Aug 29th, 2006, 2:49pm Thanks guys! Would there be anything else I should put on the base?...Or what would I do if its uneven? K |
Title: Re: Tiling? Post by jasonB on Aug 29th, 2006, 6:09pm For such a small area it wouldn't hurt to put the adhesive on a bit thicker, you will have more than enough in a bag anyway. Not worth the bother of a self leveler. Jason |
