Title: Is this forum dying?

Apart from the Quiz and Wolfie's awful jokes :-D, there doesn't seem to be much going on these days?

I have to agree TT  :(  How does anyone new find this forum?  I've done a google search for builders/forums/talk etc but it never comes up  :-/

I can't remember how I first found it  :-/

Put 'Builders Forum' in Google and Screwflux is at the top!  We don't appear to be anywhere.

Being offline as often as we are doesn't help either.

What should we all do?

apparently we need "SPIDERS" or omething, it is what in compy speak, attracts the search engines on places such as google etc... one of the other sites i belong to was having trouble drumming up posters/members, until "SPIDERS" were allowed to vbisist the site...

well something like that, but i do know they were called spiders!!!

We get around 60 "Crawlers" a day.

The forum is suffering due to issues with the server outputting a huge volume of traffic which we are monitoring - Having trouble getting the server to log fully what is happening when the huge output of traffic occurs (which kills the forum off).

We will get to the bottom of it - And when we do, the forum will be more stable and reliable.

I have temporarily blocked email for a short time to see if this is where the push of traffic is originating.

Gents,

I was referring more to the poor variety of content and the low numbers of new posters/subjects, rather than the technical problems.

It just doesn't seem to have the vibrancy it used to have , and many 'old names' are never seen nowadays.

Wonder where they all went?

if it is dying slightly, then its because no one can find the forum like Jerry says.
I agree not a lot of new people come in, I dont know why this is, as this is a very friendly site, and everyone has been helpful and friendly to any newbies.
Perhaps we need some new topics of discussions, so we should all put our thinking caps on, as we all want to keep ATT alive. ;D

I do think finding it is the problem (as is reliability). The ebuld forum is allways busy even though it's a pain to use.

Search engines will always log a site low if it is there one minute and gone the next - they troll around all the time, and if they see the site vanish it gets a low ranking.

Once we can the forum back on a stable footing, the ranking will improve again.

Testing a reply to a topic to check replying works and chmods are correct....
