Title: Access to a tap ????
Post by Rayray on Nov 9th, 2007, 4:28pm

I have a hot water tap in the basin that is squeaking really badly when turned on. Fine for the first half turn then really loud squealing noise....

Had some great advice from "the scruff" regarding what the problem might be..... however - I cant get into the tap to try and fix it!

Taken out main access screw but the rest of it will not budge. Tried an adjustable spanner ( tapping it with a hammer while holding spout of tap with a cloth..) but it isnt budging... reluctant to force it too much for fear of cracking the basin....

Anyone know any tricks to access the working parts of a neglected tap??

Why not just replace it?  Taps can be bought for a few pounds nowadays.

Why do anything  ;D

If you turn it on and off a couple of dozen times it will stop making a noise

To safely get the inside out do as Jerry has suggested and remove the tap from the basin.

Once free of breakable bits you can use as much force as needed or replace if needed.
