Title: endless water flow into cistern after toilet flush Post by ianfoard on Mar 31st, 2008, 7:25pm After flushing the water will rise above the desired float level and flow down the overflow. Only the stop valve under the cistern will stop the water flow into the cistern. |
Title: Re: endless water flow into cistern after toilet f Post by CWatters on Mar 31st, 2008, 8:03pm Is the float err floating? What happens if you lift the float by hand? If that still doesn't shut it off it will be the seal. What type is it? On old fashioned one or a modern plastic unit? It's not usually hard to replace the whole assembly, particularly if you have a stop valve under the cistern. |
Title: Re: endless water flow into cistern after toilet f Post by ianfoard on Apr 8th, 2008, 7:09am Thanks for the reply. My cistern has a modern plastic assembly. I'm not sure where to find the float - there is nothing actually floating. Would you happen to know what part of the assembly does the job of the float? Would a photo help? |
Title: Re: endless water flow into cistern after toilet f Post by CWatters on Apr 8th, 2008, 8:54am There are several different types but all have a float of some sort. If it's not obvious it's probably the type where the float slides up and down a post... Perhaps like this one.. or The float on these is the big blue square thing. The problem is either a) float is stuck down or b) float moves but the valve doesn't fully close. Both caused by scale usually. Sometimes easier to replace the whole thing than to try cleaning it. |
