Title: Dirty grout between tiles
Post by seagreen on Sep 14th, 2008, 10:25pm

The grout between our tiles was a nice cream colour but it has become very dirty.  I've tried everything to clean it but nothing works. Is it necessary to remove the old grout it I was to re-do it with a more workable colour?

I've never found any of the whiteners or so-called miracle cures to work. When faced with a similar problem at home, it became yet another use for my Fein MiracleTool (sorry, MultiMaster) and I used the fine diamond blade to quickly remove the old grout.

If you've tried scrubbing with bleach with no luck it looks like it will have to be removed.

You can hire a tool for that but I've never used one so I've no idea if they are easy to use. Make sure tiles are secure or plan to re do the adhesive as well...

There are also some hand scrapers designed to do the job.

CWatters that tool in your link looks just like the Fein Multimaster the londonman was talking about. I have seen a Bosch version of it in B&Q for 1/2 the price of the Fein. Very versatile tools, if you hire one you will only go out and buy one  ;D
