Title: Wireless thermostat for old oil boiler
Post by jonathan280 on Jan 30th, 2009, 1:28am

Hello all,

A relative has an old (20yrs+) oil boiler controlled by a mechanical programmer. I'm not sure of the make. I know it's a straight forward "radiators and hot water tank" type system.

My relative would like to fit a wireless room thermostat, but has been told that it's only possible to use a "dual channel" type. As I understand it, the old mechanical programmer switches two channels, one for the boiler and one for the C/H pump. Boiler on and pump off gives hot water, boiler on and pump on heats the radiators as well. Have I got this right?

Is the advice correct? Can a single channel thermostat be used? If not can anyone suggest a suitable dual channel wireless thermostat?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Best regards..........Jonathan

I'm not a plumber but, the sort of programmer you need does exist. Here is an example but I've no experience with this make/model..

I'm sure it's also possible to use a simple non-programable wireless room stat with a wired dual CH/HW programmer... but perhaps it's better to have all the controls in one place?

Without makes and models, it impossible to comment
