Title: Border Adhesive.
Post by Mikee on Mar 5th, 2009, 7:06pm

Hi,
my son is decorating his new nursery.  Does he need to use border adhesive to hang border onto an emulsioned wall or can he use ordinary wallpaper paste?
                   Thanks,  Mikee. ;)

I have never seen border adhesive but it sounds like it is something the likes of Homebase and B&Q have made up so they can charge more for it? Hopefully one of the decorators will come along and set the record straight...

If it is a paper border then wallpaper paste is ok, but I always use proper border adhesive to be safe. Remember vinyl does not stick to vinyl (if you have to overlap in the corners) you have to use border adhesive or 'vinyl overlap.'

Thank goodness you came along Hammy, I was being cynical (again!).
Although I could be right because it is vinyl wallpaper paste, repackaged as border adhesive  ;D

What sort of emulsion is on the wall? Check it's washable otherwise when you wash off the excess paste that's squeezed out you might have probs.

I put up borders in my childrens nursery many years ago. I made a special trip out to buy paste only to discover the border it was self adhesive and had a peel off wax paper backing. Duh.

What about PVA mixed in with a bit of paste.

Why? no point.  Just use one or the other.

Why not use thumb tacks or blue tack?

P.V.A. by itself?  bit strong hammy. p.s. Don't think Zambezi's done much decorating, not bad at electrics though, (so they reckon).  :P
