Title: Nailing joist Post by ma701ss on Aug 16th, 2009, 9:52pm Hi, I've nailed down a 4x2 joist to timber wall plates sitting on sleeper walls. At two of the wall plates the joist did not sit on them, it sat about a quarter to half inch off them. I nailed the joist down by toenailing the nails into it and the wall plate. It seems pretty secure. I did wonder if over time the joist would try to pull away and spring up, or is what I've done quite normal? Perhaps the joist will reshape anyway after a while and stay in position even if the nails are removed. ma701ss |

Title: Re: Nailing joist Post by CWatters on Aug 17th, 2009, 10:18am I assume the gap is due to curved joists so If you pack the gap the floor won't be dead flat. |
Title: Re: Nailing joist Post by Joiner on Aug 17th, 2009, 8:16pm Won't be dead flat anyway, which is why it'll probably be OK. He's skew-nailed them so I doubt they'll move as long as he's used a bit of overkill on the length of nail. |
