Title: Take away kitchens Post by Zambezi on Aug 25th, 2009, 8:41am Who does the best take away kitchens? There are the sheds that do flat pack take away kitchen units, - B&Q - Wickes - Ikea Then there are the more expensive pre-assembled units, - Howdens - Magnet I have used various brands over the last few years but I hope some of the more experienced kitchen fitters would be able to shed some light on them. Howdens - units came ready assembled but they were not very well put together, which made lining them up and leveling a nightmare. 1 or 2 mm out per unit = 6 - 10mm out by the time you have fitted a row of units. They may have upped their game in the last couple of years, I used them about 2 years ago. Magnet - Only ever used a couple of their units and they seemed ok, again a long time ago. B&Q - Nice thick carcasses but I don't really like their selection of doors, again not used any for a while. Wickes - Standard carcasses and some nice doors. Ikea - Odd sizes but quality was ok. I have a kitchen to fit and I don't have 8 weeks to wait for units to arrive, hence the need for a take away kitchen. I would dearly like to make my own doors but my workshop/garage is not geared up for making anything of any quality :( Any other places I could look for decent kitchens that are available from stock? |
Title: Re: Take away kitchens Post by londonman on Aug 25th, 2009, 6:52pm What does the customer want in the way of frontals? Modern? Wood? Style...shaker? Wouldn't that dictate where to get the kitchen from? I've installed 3 Magnet kitchens over the last few years and their quality is very good. |
Title: Re: Take away kitchens Post by Zambezi on Aug 25th, 2009, 9:34pm The customer is SWMBO, who keeps changing her mind!!! Subject to us exchanging contracts tomorrow (or soon after). I quite like shaker style doors - solid oak frames on veneered panels. |
Title: Re: Take away kitchens Post by woodsmith on Aug 26th, 2009, 8:20am Woodfit have a good selection but I think they have a 2 week delivery. http://woodfit.com/ You could always use the BnQ cabinets and source the doors separately |
Title: Re: Take away kitchens Post by Zambezi on Aug 26th, 2009, 8:42am Thanks WS, I have not used Woodfit before but it looks like they do some nice stuff. I was thinking of doing the carcasses only, if I can not find suitable doors in time. Apparently Howdens are having a big sale but it only starts on the 5th of October :( |
