Title: Ryobi CM-31 Chain Morticer
Post by Joiner on Nov 6th, 2009, 3:47pm

Spent bloody ages looking for a supplier of replacement chains for this machine.  [smiley=reading.gif]:-? :-?

If anyone else fancies their chances, feel free and you'll earn my undying gratitude.

Eventually got the machine this Wednesday, having bought it off eBay three sodding weeks ago and been buggered around by the seller, who was so laid back he sounded horizontal on the frantic chase-up phone call I managed to get through!

I never feel easy unless I've got spare tooling for any of my machines because Sod's Law will apply soon as apples is apples!

I can't remember the name of the company but in the past I've bought a chain for a Ryobi pruning saw off a company on ebay. The company made chains to your spec. They just needed the pitch and number of links.

Thanks both.

No point going the bespoke route, Cwatters, the things are out there somewhere. Just frustrated that it's proved so bloody difficult to track down a supplier. Even the Ryobi Direct site drew a blank.

But you seem to have hit the mark there, Wolfie. I've emailed them. Thanks.

I did email a couple of other companies that looked promising when I was searching earlier, and I now recall seeing the machines and the spare chains in a place over in Llandrindod Wells, so I'll give them a bell as well because they do mail order.

Any guesses as to the cost of a replacement chain?

Go on, have a guess!

£190 + VAT  [smiley=drugged.gif]

Nice yank/canadian guy at R&R, Wolfie, equally gobsmacked at the price. Said he could do it for that less 15%, but still a rip-off. He was apologising for the cost! Now that's service for you.

I'll take a trip out to the local farmer's merchants on Wednesday and see what they can make a chain up for.

Not really that fussed because the one on it still has a lot of life left in it and I'll get around to sharpening it some time soon. But like I said, I hate having any tool without a back-up.

Oh, and that place in LLandrindod Wells no longer deals with Ryobi, it's all Makita now.

Are these standard chains or do they have fancy tooth shapes?  The bespoke option was pretty cheap - I think I only paid around £10 for the chains I ordered.  I'm regretting not bookmarking the seller.

Basically I found an advert that said something like..  "If you need any length not listed email me and i will list it for you"... for example..

We had a brief email exchange and they were on the way.

Pass. Won't know until I take it off and have a look.

Probably bloody gold-plated!
