Title: paint preservation Post by Hot Stu on Nov 11th, 2010, 8:34pm If there was a product to stop skin forming on paint once it has been opened and was relatively cheap do you think anybody would be interested. I would appreciate comments. |
Title: Re: paint preservation Post by cumbriahandyman on Nov 11th, 2010, 8:44pm Make sure the lid is reasonably clean and fits well then store it upside down. The idea is that the paint itself will seal the lid so no air can get in and therefore no skin. The other thing to do is not leave the tin open for long. Just pour what you need into a paint kettle - wipe the edge - lid back on tight - store upside down. If any skin should form, it will form at the bottom of the tin. 8-) |
Title: Re: paint preservation Post by Joiner on Nov 12th, 2010, 8:33am I think the OP is wanting to find out if there'd be any interest in such a product. Probably something he's come up with! ;) |
Title: Re: paint preservation Post by CWatters on Nov 12th, 2010, 9:11am I suspect such a product would be of interest to DIY painters but perhaps not professional painters? I can't see the paint companies fitting one as standard to every tin - they actually want people to throw out old tins. |
Title: Re: paint preservation Post by londonman on Nov 12th, 2010, 3:40pm Hasn't that problem gone away in any case with the move away from high VOC paints like good old Dulux Gloss Oil paint? |
Title: Re: paint preservation Post by hammy on Nov 21st, 2010, 11:06am What's wrong with a skin? It forms a perfectly airtight seal so no crap or dust can reach the paint. Sharp blade round the outside and it lifts off perfectly. |
