Title: Artex, how to reduce the spikes Post by juco on Jun 26th, 2011, 10:15pm Just moved into this house and all the ceilings are artexed :-( I cannot afford for now to get a plasterer to reskim the ceilings so looking for whats best DIY to reduce the effect of the artex (to make less spikey, less obvious) If I moisten and run a board over it would this help reduce it? Any other relatively cheap ideas? thanks |

Title: Re: Artex, how to reduce the spikes Post by Twobarrows on Jul 1st, 2011, 12:41pm Last house had all Artexed ceilings!!! I soaked the celings with soapy water and scraped with a floor scraper (Wickes, approx £10). Some of them were easy to scrape the Artex clean off, others it was only reasonably possible to smooth it slightly; but we plastered over straight away anyhow. Makes one hell of a mess if it all comes off. To be honest, I would leave it alone as you will have to paint it again after, better to do the whole job in one hit (scrape, plaster, paint) as it is much more time efficient in covering up & clearing up, doing it in stages is going to make a mess twice! |
