Title: Bolix
Post by cumbriahandyman on Feb 4th, 2012, 6:53pm

Microsoft have decided that they will no longer host my website from April 2012.

So am looking to obtain a new website. Any suggestions for easy to build site providers?

Design just host?

You could download your current website and upload it to a new host.

This forum is hosted with streamline.net.

Lec is right, you can either transfer your existing to streamline, or build a new site with them...

i transfered 2 sites complete, and designed and hosted 4, with them... they really are good!!

I also have some hosting with 1and1, and this is around £35 a year.

The difference is though is that you can register several domains or sub domains, fully control the A record and MX record, and host as many websites as you like on the single account for the single fee.  You can have one domain for one website and one domain for another website completely independently from each other.  Essentially two for the price of one.

1&1 are buggers to get out of though.

Cancelled the payments after cancelling the contract according to all their instructions, getting email confirmation, but they still tried to take the subscription and started to send demanding emails until I threatened to go onto YouTube and tell everyone what a pain in the ass they were being.

I think they are all difficult to get out of, streamline.net included.

How do I do this?

If you have a site up and live already, you must have FTP or sFTP access to it using an FTP client.  You may also have access via a 'cPanel' or similar.  Download all the files and directory structure using the FTP client, and then upload this to your new host.

If you have a domain name (such as askthetrades.co.uk), is this with the current host, or do you have this from somewhere else?  If it is with the current host, you will have to either transfer it or alter the name servers associated with it.

The first thing to do is figure out your current hosts FTP access details and where your domain name resides.

If you need a hand, it can be arranged.

Edit//

Looking at your website (I assume it's that one?), it is created using your hosts creator I guess?  In that case you may find it a tad harder to re-host as the style sheets and other images/buttons etc will need to be copied too (which isn't hard).  Best to make sure they dont force a copy write on the design though, forcing you to only use their hosting.

You could dowload all the stuff and re-create it somewhere else temporarily to make sure it does work, and then shift the domain name across - I can host it for you on some temporary space.

Lectrician,

Thanks for the input, I am totally lost. I guess I will just have to start all over again, except I can't even figure out where to start with the package I have signed up to with streamline.  :'(

Do you have streamline up and running with a new domain name or a test domain name?

I can download everything for you and put it up onto streamline if you want - If it takes longer than 30 mins or so you can make a small donation to the forum running costs here!

PM me if you would like help, with FTP details.
