Title: Veritas r8 - Daisy Chaining a PIR Sensor
Post by harman77 on Apr 1st, 2012, 2:56pm

Hi I have a Veritas r8 alarm, I am trying to add another PIR Sensor and an unable to add it directly to the panel. Is there anyway I can daisy chain from an existing sensor? If so what wires do i need to connect, the existing PIR Sensor currently has all 6 cables connected : (+) Red (-) Black (N) Green (C) Yellow (T) Blue (T) White. I cannot see where the rest of the cables go but assume each sensor is on its own zone from the walk test.  Your assistance would be appreciated.

Run a 6 core cable from your new detector to the old and copy the colour code from the old to terminate the new.

When it comes to connected the new cable into the old detector you need to parallel the power (+ -), and series the NC Alarm and series the TT tamper.  To do this you would need to join two cores together by twisting the conductors together and the preferably soldering it and then taping it.  Or use some IDC jellies to 'crimp' the cores together.

Just transpose the colours in the diagram for the ones your detector has used.  There is no hard and fast colour scheme, all installers use different colours:

Your red and black is their white and green

Your green and yellow is their red and black

Your blue and white is their blue and yellow

Sorry I am still confused. I only want to connect one not two pir's.
I have attached a picture.  I am not an electrician and appologise for my lack of understanding. A dummy version would be great....connect red cable to...connect black cable too...
Thanks in advance

The pic was a stock picture, you can just ignore the middle PIR.

Can't see a pic anywhere of yours?

If you post a pic of the new and old I can adapt them to make it easier.

Have added the pic to your gallery and added it to your post above.

Just as a point for the future, the cables sheath should be taken inside the PIR enclosure, not cut short behind it.  You should create a cable entry the size of the cable and not punch out ones which will not be used (creepy crawlys can get in and cause false alarms), and it looks like nails have been used to fix the detector?  Not ideal ;)

Thanks you are a legend.

Just to summarize:

-Red to Red
-Black to Black
-Yellow  - N (old) to Yellow (New) - C
-Green & White (old) connected together and green connected to N White connected to T

In the old sensor you have left the yellow and blue cables is that correct?

Sounds like you get it.

The TT doesnt matter which way around you get them (blue/white or white/blue).
The NC doesnt matter which way around you get them (green/yellow or yellow/green).
+ - MUST be the correct way around.

The Nails are temporary, will be replacing with screws. I take your tip on borad and may silcone seal the sides.

Yep!  If you follow it through you will see the NC and TT contacts are then in series.
