My 250 year old cottage is covered with horrible cement based pebbledash which was put on in the 1950s. It is very strong and sound, and I am loath to remove it as it might be holding the walls together. The walls are built of stone and rubble and are about 2 feet thick.
Is it possible to plaster over the pebbledash? Im not looking for a perfectly smooth surface, the walls have their own delightfully wavy character and Im happy to keep it that way. The walls were painted about 25 years ago and it is back to the cement in a lot of places. Any advice on this much appreciated.

This is rendering rather than plastering and is a specialist job if you want it to stay on the wall once it has been applied. The only problem I could see is if the existing finish has been coated with a paint or moisture resistant finish that may resist the render. Otherwise you should be able to get it rendered no problem.
