Title: ceiling problem
Post by KimandMiguel on Aug 28th, 2013, 12:40pm

Can anyone help us with this problem? In the small bathroom we are renovating the ceiling is covered in polystyrene tiles which appear to have been affixed with some kind of contact adhesive that is almost impossible to remove. What are our options? Do we need to construct a suspended ceiling or does anyone out there have a clever solution that would save us some work?

If its contact adhesive then you can't just plaster on top because you are putting a hard material on top of a flexible one and it will crack and probably not adhere. As you say the glue is not going to come away cleanly. Rather than fit a suspended ceiling you could just plasterboard on top of the existing boards, once you have removed the tiles, and then plaster the new clean surface.
