Title: Toilet seat fixing - Back to wall pan Post by Flashbang on Sep 17th, 2013, 1:23pm Hi all, I have a problem with a soft close toilet seat. Which continually keeps coming loose and moving mainly to the left but also to the right of the pan. The WC pan is a back to the wall type so obtaining access to the seat fixings under the pan is impossible, unless the pan is removed from all its plumbing - this is unlikely to happen! The existing seat fixings are by two rubber plugs (bungs) with a moulded nut in the bottom of each plug. The plugs are pushed through the pans holes and their top flange holds them on the pan upper surface, the seat fixing studs are placed on top and a bolt passed down into the plug and engages with the moulded nut at the bottom. The idea is when the bolt is tightened the rubber plug balloons under the pan retaining the bolt and fixing all above in place. The bolt on each fixing is tightened to its maximum and if more force is applied I have on one occasion had the nut work its way through the rubber plug and the fixing became useless. A new rubber plug was fitted once the old one had been pushed down into the void behind the pan and wall. Is there a better and more secure method of fixing the seat in place? Perhaps not using the rubber plugs? Cheers. |
