Title: Light Switch earth wires.
Post by Mikee on Feb 5th, 2014, 12:45pm

Hello all, I'm replacing my plastic light switches with the polished chrome type around my house. I understand that the switch earth wires should be connected to the front plate and a wire from that to the metal back box, but on one of the switches (a 2 gang, 2 way) there is five earth wires which would need to go into the small terminal on the faceplate. There is no way they will all fit in so I was wondering if somebody on here would advise me on the correct way to connect the earth wires up. Would it be alright to fit the wires into the back box terminal and run an earth wire from that to the faceplate, or is this a no no.
                            Thanks, Mikee.

Nothing wrong with that, but give them all a wiggle test to make sure they're all secure.  Some back box terminals are poor to say the least!

Thanks for that Lectrician, I was a bit concerned as I thought I had read somewhere that the cpc's should be connected to the metal faceplate and a fly lead from there to the back box.  Cheers, Mikee.
