Title: How to connect a plug to a vintage Danish lamp
Post by ynotsiraf on Mar 9th, 2015, 7:36pm

I have acquired a floor lamp which I believe is Danish. The plug was removed prior to purchase and I am unsure how to reconnect one. The cable is two core and the colours are black and blue. Can anyone help please?

Is the cable vintage too?  Might be worth replacing it anyway if it is, and then youd have correct colours.

That said, if it takes a standard bayonet type bulb then I wouldn't have thought it would make any difference which wire is live and which is neutral, as the bulb can be connected either way round

Perhaps best put a meter on it just for safety. Google says that Denmark may have used blue as earth in the past.

If you only have two cores it's unlikely one is connected to the exposed metal body of the lamp but I'd want to check if it was mine.
