Title: Tap keeps winding back (worm thingy)
Post by Lectrician on Mar 26th, 2015, 6:48pm

My kitchen mixer tap keeps going to a dribble, and with little spindle movement.

If I take the tap apart and wind back the worm/washer assembly and ree assemble, the tap works fine for a week or so, and then reverts.

What's causing this?

Do I just swap the brass assembly for new?

Cheers :-)

Guessing yes they are quite cheap, screwfix best value probably, but take the old one with you.

What happens is the circlip slips out of the groove so the bullet does screw in and out properly.

A pic with the handle off would be good.

It was a very cheap SF tap, as kitchen is due to be ripped out at some point, but expected it to last longer than a year!

I think it is the circlip, I have to remove that to get things back working again.

The whole assembly can be bought as replacement?  May swap both, although it only seems the hot that fails, even after swapping hot for cold.  Temp I guess.

If the circlip isn't in place the bullet cannot screw up, instead the spline goes down, use a pair od grips next time to pull it up
