Laying garden path
Oct 28th, 2011, 8:23am

Lips SealedHi all...am in the process of laying a garden path, slabs on sharp sand/cement, but a friend has just told me not to do it at this time of year as the wet ground will freeze in winter and lift slabs.
Is this right? and should I hold of till warmer spring time?

Any advice from the experts would be grateful

I'm on clay and get 2" wide cracks in summer which dissapear in the winter. I wouldn't put anything direct onto the soil, I'd put some sort of subbase down first.

I reckon if the ground is going to freeze and lift slabs it will probably do it every winter regardless of when it's done. Obviously if the ground is already frozen you shouldn't lay paving..

That site is worth bookmarking.
