I have got to price a job for an intercom system and some of the cable runs will need to be over 150 metres long.

do you get bt cable on longer than 100 metre drums and will there be any problems with signal?

I reckon it should be ok but thot i would ask

cheers guys

the black outdoor stuff you definately get on longer drums not sure about the indoor stuff

as for signal loss and/or interference it depends a huge amount on how the intercom works i would contact the manufacturer about that one

RS stock 500m drums of internal phone cable - You'll have to speak to the manufacturers  for the limits of your intercom though - BT always worked to a design distance of upto 5Km on standard telephone lines!.

BT use 50v - intercoms are generally 12v  Wink

Intercoms vary considerably, you need the manufacturers spec.

Is this a door entry system, or possibly a PBX??  A PBX wouldn't have a constraight on length.

Yea, contact the manufacturers then, this is your safest bet.  They may give you a guide to larger cores.

We fitted a video intercom, and had to use 1.5mm cores for the supply due to the length of the runs.
