Fire surround
Jun 22nd, 2005, 12:58am

I have a marble fire surround to put in - As far as I am aware they should be free standing, held by the wood mantel.

However, what mix of mortar do I use to patch the pargetting?  Is 1 OPC 1 Lime 3 Sand o.k. ?

And do I use the same mix to seal round the opening (fireframe?)

Thanks

I've fixed our granite backpanel to the wall with pinkgrip, sealing the gap around the opening with a high temperature silicone sealant. The fire was a gas fire.

What do you mean by the pargetting if you're putting in a new fire surround and mantle?

I am not changing the chair, and there is some loose pargeting immediately above it.  I thought I'd get at it whilst the surround wasn't there.

Thanks
