Burying pipes in concrete
Sep 12th, 2006, 8:08pm

Hello everyone Grin

I have just been pointed in the direction of this forum as THE place to go for DIY questions, so lets see.

I need to bury a couple of 10mm microbore pipes in concrete. I have built an extension on the back of my house and am relocating a radiator from below a window which has been knocked out into the extension. The only way to get the pipes to the new radiator position is by burying them in the floor where I cut through the wall. I have a trench 300mm wide and 100mm deep where the wall was, which will be filled with concrete, the pipes will be in this.

How do I go about protecting the pipes? Do I wrap tape around them or put them in some kind of trunking?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers

KD

You can buy plastic coated copper, or wrap the copper tube in denso tape (messy) or use a flexible conduit.

Domestic hot and cold water must be ducted and lagged.

Thanks for the replies.

The finished floor will be carpeted, why does this make a differnce?

I had a look in B+Q for some kind of tape and couldn't find anything, same goes for coated pipe even on Screwfix. I will have a look for Denso tape if that is the correct name.

the reason i asked about the floor finish is because from past experience, if something like tiles were going down, then denso tape, or sand around the pipes, followed by the concrete/screed then the floor covering, now if you are having carpet, then a flexi duct or a timber cover on side battens  is an option as future access is available!!

If you are carpeting you could create a duct in the trench to allow future access if necessary

Ah Denso haven't had to use it since my days cable jointing with the GPO. Smells like sh*t, sticks like sh*t, sh*t to use, sh*t to keep open reels (pop it in a plastic bag, the sort with no holes, and seal well), thank god for diposable rubber gloves & apprentices.
