Cold Supply
Oct 28th, 2006, 3:12pm

The upstairs bathroom has a problem with the cold supply to the bath and basin. When the taps are turned on the water flows weakly for a few seconds and then stops.

The bathroom is fed from a cold storage tank in the attic as normal, and I have checked and that is full and the ballcock working properly, nothing unusual to be seen in the tank. Only thing is lots of scale in the bottom of the tank (we live in a hard water area), but the outlet pipes are a good inch or two above the level of scale and nothing obvious is blocking the pipes.

Any ideas what I could do to help figure out the problem, or to fix it would be appreciated !

Cheers

Plummit on the Screwfix forum suggested an air lock also and backflushing with a mains supply feed.

Couldn't figure how to get a mains supply easily up to the upstairs bathroom, would need a long hosepipe I guess, but had an easier idea.

The upstairs shower is pumped, so took the showerhead of the hose and taped the hose end tight to the bath tap and turned on the pumped hot water supply for thirty seconds (the cold didn't work here either), and it worked !

Hardly any bother at all when you know how, so thanks for the advice Plummit and Scruff !

Cheers
