Hello
I,m not normally a suspicious type but I have reason to be comcerned.
Last month I had an estimate to replace an old hot water cylinder, indirect sort. The estimate was £464.13 which I accepted. When the plumber was almost finished he called me to say that the old V6057A valve would'nt fit the new pipes that he had to use. He had, infact fitted this old unit but it . appeared to be loose!!
So I agreed to a new one and showed him an electrical diagram showing how to transfer the 5 wires to the replacement V4043. ( I had previously thought that the old one was faulty due to being noisy- it just needed a spot of oil, but I had already enquired about a replacement and the dealer gave me this diagram showing how to transfer the wires if I did change it )
The plumber decided that it would not help and called in an electrician who happend to be not an employee but a subcontractor.
I accepted that the wiring diagram would not be relavent to the new unit that was fitted, but when I saw the leaflet with it I realised that it was relavent. In the meantime the electrician had used a method of "trial and error". this took a long time amounting an extra £214 on the bill!!
I have paid this bill £675.75 under protest asking for an explanation.
Sofar I have received no comment. What makes me concerned is that the electrician was of the opinion that the new valve was not wanted and the old one could have been used!!.
Honeywell have said that both units are 22mm compression.
So you see why I would like the opinion of an experienced plumber.
Sorry about the length of all this

Quote:First you should post the question on the forum for the benefit of others. That is after all what its for.
To answer your question I think you have been taken for a mug, you should not have paid for the extra work, and certainly not for the sparkie.
Assuming the valve worked ok then it would have fitted, had the plumber done the nuts up, the wiring would be as per your diagram, an hours work for a qualified sparkie.
Did he give you a test certificate, if not ask him for one under part P I think it is, another reason for posting the question on the forum, the other trades can add their bit.
Hi
Thanks for your reply, I'm going to get back to this chap and ask for a certificate. I'm sorry my story did'nt appear on the forum, I thought it would.
I'm new to this, is there anyway it can be recovered and entered ?
Anyway, much thanks for your help.
Pete
