bt versatility telephone system
Jul 20th, 2008, 1:32pm

I have just fitted a second hand one for a company, who supplied it themselves. two analogue lines going in, the problem is:

when you use a phone, that line goes red for all other users, as it should, when you put the phone down, the line is cleared, BUT the lights dont go green on the other phones until a minute after and if you ring that line, you get the ringing tone, but no phones ring and because the line appears open, it doesn't get transferred to line 2.

so basically if someone has been on lines 1 and 2 , nobody can ring in or out for a minute afterwards.

I think its a fault in the black analogue card and am going to recommend them to get another one at £150.

anyone fitted similar systems? any other theories.

Google found a manual..

http://www.discom.co.uk/manuals/BT%20Versatility%20Owners%20manual%20Rev%204.pdf...

Page 96 suggests you should check the setting for "Guarded Clear"

Quote:
Programming Guarded Clear

On standard Analogue lines on the BT Versatility the Guarded Clear option is programmed. The system can then detect when callers go on hook and automatically clear down lines. This supervision on lines enables the trunk to trunk services to be available on the lines.

If guarded clear is turned off then the trunk to trunk services are not available as the system cannot detect when calls have been completed.

From the Programming Extension, press the PROGRAMME Key

Press the Scroll Down Key () until ‘System programming’ is displayed.

Select ‘System programming’.

Enter the System Programming Password and select ‘Lines’.

Press the Scroll Down Key () until ‘PSTN programming’ is displayed.

Select ‘PSTN programming’.

Press the Scroll Down Key () until 'Guarded clear' is displayed.

Select ‘Guarded clear' The lines with guarded clear programmed are indicated with a [diamond symbol]

I've never worked on commercial phones but also worth checking the two incoming wires are the right way around eg B on 2 and A on 5 everywhere. I've heard that it shouldn't matter but I've had very strange faults when it's not been that way round.

Guarded clear is what usually sorts this issue.  The system is designed for use with business access type lines, and not standard PSTN lines.  This usually sorts the problem.

I can supply all manuals and programming software, including programming lead pinouts.  I can also enable the hotel solutions package on these systems.  I do not do any of this for free - PM me for a price.
